You do not need a separate router, and the ONT cannot be replaced with a personal router.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Vuma Reach ONT only supports 2.4 GHz WiFi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the ONT is found to be faulty, please contact Support so that we can investigate and arrange a replacement through the standard faults process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Test using a LAN cable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WiFi performance can be affected by distance, walls, interference and the number of connected devices. A slow WiFi result does not always mean there is a problem with your Fibre line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To test your connection:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Connect a laptop or computer directly to the ONT using an Ethernet or LAN cable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disconnect other devices from the internet where possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Run a speed test.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the speed is much better over LAN than WiFi, the issue is most likely related to your WiFi signal or environment rather than the Fibre line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to run an accurate speed test<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the most accurate result:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visit Speedtest.net.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the closest Webafrica server from the server list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Connect your device directly to the ONT using a LAN cable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Close downloads, streaming services, cloud backups and other apps using the internet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disconnect unnecessary devices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Run the test two or three times and compare the results.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When testing WiFi, test close to the ONT and in different areas of your home. Compare these results with your LAN test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Check the number of connected devices<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Vuma Reach ONT supports up to 10 connected devices at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All connected devices share your available internet speed. Streaming, gaming, downloads and software updates on one device can therefore affect the others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Disconnect devices you are not using, then test again with only one device connected. For the best result, use a LAN cable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Check for anything that may affect your speed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before testing, temporarily disconnect or disable:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>WiFi extenders, repeaters or mesh devices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work or personal VPN connections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Downloads, gaming and streaming on other devices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cloud backups and automatic software updates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When testing over WiFi:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Test as close to the ONT as possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep doors open where possible to reduce the number of walls between your device and the ONT.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Large objects, walls and electrical appliances between your device and the ONT can weaken the WiFi signal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compare the WiFi result with a LAN cable test to determine whether the issue is related to WiFi or the Fibre connection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the problem only affects one app, website or streaming service, the issue may be with that service rather than your internet connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4: Check your device and network cable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your speed test result may also be limited by the device or cable you are using.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Check that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your network cable is Cat5e or newer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The LAN cable is not damaged.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your device supports your package speed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your device is not running downloads, updates or security scans in the background.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You are not using an old or faulty USB network adapter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vuma Reach packages are available in different speeds. Your test result should be compared with the package you are subscribed to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 5: Restart your ONT<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A restart can clear temporary connection or WiFi problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unplug the ONT from the power source.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wait 30 seconds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plug it back in.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allow two to three minutes for the ONT to restart and reconnect.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Run another speed test once the connection is back online.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do not press the reset button, as this may restore the ONT to its factory settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Still experiencing slow speeds?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please contact our Support Team if your LAN speed is still much lower than your package speed after completing these checks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have the following information ready:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Screenshots of your LAN speed test results<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The date and time of each test<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether the problem affects every device or only one<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether the problem is constant or happens at certain times<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The number of devices normally connected<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether you use an extender, repeater, mesh device or VPN<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This information will help our team investigate the connection and log a fault with Vumatel if necessary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If your Vuma Reach internet feels slower than expected, follow these steps to help identify what may be causing the problem.
