{"id":280,"date":"2020-09-01T19:53:57","date_gmt":"2020-09-01T19:53:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/knowledge.webafrica.co.za\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=280"},"modified":"2023-07-30T21:44:20","modified_gmt":"2023-07-30T21:44:20","slug":"changing-dns-servers-for-a-router","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/knowledge.webafrica.co.za\/index.php\/knowledge-base\/changing-dns-servers-for-a-router\/","title":{"rendered":"Changing DNS Servers for a Router"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Netgear Routers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open your browser of choice and enter the IP address of your router in the address bar (default is&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.0.1\/\">http:\/\/192.168.0.1<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will be prompted to log in, the default details are a username of admin and password of password (or 1234 for older devices).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the left hand navigation menu, click on Basic Settings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure that the Get Automatically From ISP option is selected under the Domain Name Server (DNS) Address section.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Huawei Routers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open your browser of choice and enter the IP address of your router in the address bar (default is&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.1.1\/\">http:\/\/192.168.1.1<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will be prompted to log in, the default details are a username and password of `admin`.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the left-hand navigation menu, click on&nbsp;<strong>Basic&nbsp;<\/strong>and then on&nbsp;<strong>WAN.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the list of&nbsp;<strong>WAN connections<\/strong>, select your Web Africa connection(s) one at a time and do the &nbsp;following step for each<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure that the&nbsp;<strong>Primary DNS<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Secondary DNS<\/strong>&nbsp;entries are blank. If not, remove any text in both boxes and click&nbsp;<strong>Submit.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/cdn.freshdesk.com\/data\/helpdesk\/attachments\/production\/27004414429\/original\/tHDOINM8-h2KxOUXDjVTM-ymhmpK0ewgaw.png?1513241375\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reboot your router.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Billion Routers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open your browser of choice and enter the IP address of your router in the address bar (default is &nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.1.254\/\">http:\/\/192.168.1.254<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will be prompted to log in, the default details are a username and password of `admin`.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the left-hand navigation menu, click on&nbsp;<strong>Advanced.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Configuration<\/strong>, then&nbsp;<strong>WAN<\/strong>, then&nbsp;<strong>WAN Profile.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select your Web Africa connection(s) one at a time by clicking the&nbsp;<strong>Edit&nbsp;<\/strong>radio button and do the following step for each.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure that the&nbsp;<strong>Automatic&nbsp;<\/strong>option is ticked next to&nbsp;<strong>Obtain DNS<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/cdn.freshdesk.com\/data\/helpdesk\/attachments\/production\/27004414447\/original\/R4J4ZFZfBlwOgawHho8nzojPQHcYsolUWQ.png?1513241495\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Please note: All Webafrica deals and packages are subject to change without notification.
