Damaged or Tampered Fibre Cabling? How to Report It

If you see exposed or damaged fibre cabling, or an outdoor Fibre box that’s been opened or tampered with, don’t touch it. Take photos, note the exact location, and contact our Support team. We’ll report it to Vumatel, who owns the Fibre network, so they can repair it.

Vuma Reach runs on Vumatel’s Fibre network, which includes the cabling and outdoor boxes in your street. If you spot damage, here’s what to do.

What should I report?

  • Fibre cabling that’s exposed, cut, hanging loose or damaged
  • An outdoor Fibre box or pole box that’s been opened, broken or tampered with
  • Damage to the cabling or wall fittings at your property

Is it safe to touch?

No. Don’t touch, move or try to fix the cabling or box yourself.

Broken fibre can leave tiny, sharp glass fragments, and cabling near power lines can be dangerous. Keep children and pets away from the damage.

How do I report it?

  1. Stay clear: keep a safe distance from the damage.
  2. Take photos: if it’s safe to do so, take clear photos of the damage.
  3. Note the location: the exact address or nearest landmark.
  4. Check your own service: note whether your internet is working, and whether the LOS light on your Fibre Box is red or flashing.
  5. Contact our Support team: share your photos and details.

What happens next?

We’ll report the damage to Vumatel, who will arrange for it to be assessed and repaired. If your own service is affected, we’ll also log a fault for you. See What Happens When a Vuma Reach Fault Is Logged?

Does it look like theft or vandalism?

If the damage looks deliberate, you can also report it to the police.
