Vuma Reach Connection Keeps Dropping? Here’s What to Do

If your Vuma Reach connection keeps dropping, first check whether it happens on WiFi only or on a network cable too. Check your Fibre Box lights: a red or flashing LOS light means there’s a problem with the fibre line. Restart your Fibre Box, keep it away from devices that cause interference, and disconnect devices you’re not using, since the Fibre Box supports up to 10 devices on 2.4 GHz WiFi.

A connection that keeps dropping is frustrating. Work through these checks to find out what’s causing it.

Is it my WiFi or the connection itself?

Plug a computer into your Fibre Box with a network cable and use it for a while.

  • Stable on the cable, but WiFi keeps dropping? It’s a WiFi issue. See “How do I improve my WiFi?” below.
  • Dropping on the cable too? It’s the connection itself. Check your Fibre Box lights next.

What do my Fibre Box lights show?

A red or flashing LOS light means there’s a problem with the fibre line. Follow the steps in Vuma Reach: No Internet Connection. For what each light means, see Understanding Your Vuma Reach ONT Lights.

Have I tried restarting my Fibre Box?

  1. Switch off your Fibre Box (ONT) at the wall.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Switch it back on and give it 2 to 3 minutes to reconnect.

Also check that the power cable is plugged in firmly, and that the thin fibre cable isn’t bent, pinched or damaged.

Is there an outage in my area?

Check the Network Status page. If there’s a known outage, your connection will be restored once it’s fixed.

How do I improve my WiFi?

  • Avoid interference: your Fibre Box uses 2.4 GHz WiFi, so keep it away from microwaves, cordless phones and baby monitors.
  • Place it well: somewhere central, upright and in the open, not in a cupboard or behind a TV.
  • Move closer: thick walls and distance weaken the signal.
  • Limit devices: your Fibre Box supports up to 10 connected devices. Disconnect any you’re not using.

Still dropping?

If your connection still drops on a network cable after restarting your Fibre Box, there may be a fault on the line. Contact our Support team to log a fault, and let us know roughly when the drops happen and what your Fibre Box lights show.
