One of the most common questions our support team gets asked is “How do I change my Wifi password?”.
The process is fairly simple, but it does help to know what to do! Hopefully, this article will help most of you to find your way to a new, secure password and Wifi name.
1. Open your browser on your device
Your laptop or PC is the best bet, although it can be done from a mobile, too, it will just be more “fiddly”.
2. Open your router’s configuration page
To do this you will need to type the configuration page’s URL into the URL search bar in your browser. This is a number which is printed on a sticker at the bottom of your router. If you can’t find it printed there, try one of the standard router configuration addresses:
192.168.1.1
192.168.0.1
192.168.2.1
10.0.1.1
10.0.0.1
3. Enter your Username and Password
A window should open up which requests you to enter your username and password. This will be your username and your current password. If you have never changed your username it will most likely be “admin”. Your password will be whatever you set it to previously. If you have never changed it, it will most likely be “password” or “admin”. Check the sticker on your router for details.
4. Change your details
Once you’ve logged in, find the tab or button labelled “Wireless”.
You should see fields where you can fill in your desired Wifi name and password.
Click “Save” and Bob’s your uncle.
Remember: Once you have updated your Wifi details you will need to log into your Wifi on all of your devices (your phone, laptop, Smart TV, etc.) using your new password.
If all else fails: Press the reset button on your router. You’ll need to hold it in for about 30 seconds. This will take you back to the default settings that your router came with (Usually Username: admin; Password: admin). If this fails you, you will need to call our support team on 086 000 9500 and let them help you.
It’s a good idea to change your Wifi password at least every three months or so, in order to deter pesky neighbours and sneaky hackers from using up your bandwidth.
