LTE Q&A

Can I  use my LTE SIM card with my Phone?
No. The SIM has been locked and therefore can only be used on LTE specific routers.

Can I  use my FIXED MTN LTE anywhere?

No. Your SIM is locked to the sign-up address. If the router is moved, a soft-lock will be applied which can take up to 24 hours to unlock. You will get a maximum of 2 unlocks and on the 3rd a new SIM needs to be requested and delivered

Is LTE a Good Option for Gaming?
Yes, provided you receive a good result from a ping test, you should enjoy a seamless gaming experience.

Are there really no contracts on Webafrica Fixed LTE?

Yes.

All of our data packages are month-to-month, so if you choose to cancel, you need only give us one calendar month’s notice.

Webafrica is the only ISP currently* offering Telkom LTE packages without a contract.

*At the time of publishing.

Should you cancel your service (or fall into a suspended state) you will need to return your premium, wireless router, or you may choose to purchase it.

What do I do if my speeds are slow?
Firstly, test the router in different places within your home, if that doesn’t work, plug an ethernet cable (provided) into the LTE router and into your laptop or computer. Run a speed test. If your speeds remain consistently below 10 Mbps, you may require an external antenna outside your home to boost the signal (additional R1750). See our full article on how to improve your LTE speeds.

What is the speed difference between 3G and FIXED LTE?
LTE is up to 10 times faster than 3G with speeds commonly between 20 – 50 Mbps.

How many Fixed LTE Services can I order?

A maximum of three is allowed per customer.

What speeds can I experience on Fixed LTE?
After rigorous testing we’ve seen speeds of between 4 – 50Mbps, depending on various factors (proximity to the tower, where the router is placed in the home, interference from Mother Nature etc). In general, our customers get around 20Mbps.

Can I use this Fixed LTE service anywhere?

Going on holiday to Plett? Pack it up and take it with you. Fixed LTE works anywhere within the underlying infrastructure provider’s coverage area (remember our coverage maps expand weekly, so check back at any time to see if your next destination is covered).

That said, our Fixed LTE is designed to be a fixed home-based product and it can take up to 24 hours to connect to the new tower if you do move it.

Do I need to RICA my SIM card?
Yes, you need to provide Webafrica with an electronic copy of your ID and proof of address that is less than three months old. Once you have ordered, you will automatically be prompted by email to RICA, the documents can then be uploaded in your Customer Zone. Your customer zone details will be emailed to you as soon as you have placed your order.
You will also be required to have a copy of your ID and proof of residence available when your SIM is delivered, and you must sign for it in person.

In what order is my data used after I top up?

On Telkom LTE: Your Top-Up Data will be used up after your monthly allocated data, on a first-in, first-out basis. Your Anytime Top-Up data is available for 61 days before it expires. Night surfer Top-Up data does not roll over and will expire within 30 days of purchase.

On Cell C: Monthly allocated Data is used first, then any top-up data you may have on your account.

Data Burndown: In what order is my monthly allocated data used upon Telkom LTE?

On the Telkom LTE packages, you are buying a bundled data package that consists of a doubled monthly data allocation and a doubledNight surfer data allocations.

For example:

If you have the 20GB+10GB package, you are in fact buying a (5GB Inclusive+5GB Bonus) package and a (5GB Inclusive+5GB BonusNight surfer component.

The “burndown” or data usage on these packages work as follows:

Bonus Data

Inclusive Anytime Bundle (rollover data first, then newly allocated data)

Inclusive Night Surfer Bundle (valid from 12 am to 7 am)

Top-Up Data (if applicable)

On Cell C: Monthly allocated data will be used first, then any top-up data you may have on your account.

Does top-up data expire?

Yes.

On Cell C: Your Top Ups expire 30 days from the date of purchase.

On Telkom LTE: Your Anytime Top Up data expires 60 days from purchase and your Night surfer Top Up Data expires 30 days from purchase.

Does Unused Data rollover?

On RAIN: Yes, with a limit of one month’s rollover.
As of 1 June 2018, if you have not used your entire monthly allocation of data in a calendar month, it will roll over and only expire at the end of the following calendar month. For example, if you have a 55GB package allocated for the period 1 to 30 June, and you have 5GB of your data package remaining, that 5GB will be valid until 31 July at 23:59.
The maximum roll-over period for unused data is one additional calendar month. Following this period, unused data will be forfeited.

On Cell C: Unused data does not roll over.

On Telkom LTE: In-bundle Anytime data will roll over for 1 month. Bonus data and Night surfer Data do not rollover.

How long does it take for my Fixed LTE service to activate?
The SIM will automatically activate within 24 hours after delivery if it is inserted into a Fixed LTE router on our approved list.

I have a RAIN LTE service – but when I search your map it says that LTE is not available in my area – why is this?

You may find that LTE doesn’t come up as “available” in your area, even though you are already connected here. This is because our map only shows services that are available for you (or any new customer) to sign up for. RAIN is no longer selling their fixed LTE service through ISP’s, which means we may not advertise that they are available in an area – even if the service does still work there – because we can’t sell it to any new customers.

Why is LTE preferable to ADSL?

The advantages of LTE over ADSL are:

  • No Contracts – all our Fixed LTE deals are month-to-month
  • Our premium, wireless LTE router means no expensive outlay costs. Simply return it if you choose to cancel.
  • Order now and be connected in under 5 days
  • No Landline or cables – So if you move you can take it with you
  • No Landlord or Body Corp. permission required because there is no hardware to install
  • No degrading copper or copper theft means a more reliable service
  • LTE’s mobility makes it easy enough to take with you when you’re on the move – you are not tied down
  • You can get speeds of up to 50Mbps
  • There is LTE available in some areas where landlines are not accessible, or where you can’t get ADSL speeds over 2Mbps due to infrastructure restrictions
